My family owns several bamboo stalks planted in the courtyard. The nature of bamboo is clear and upright; it does not change its resolve due to wind and frost, nor does it alter its heart because of rain and snow. Every spring, new shoots break through the soil and stand tall like swords, full of vitality. In the scorching summer days, the shade of the bamboo provides coolness, where my family often gathers to chat and laugh. When autumn winds arrive, leaves fall but the bamboo remains green. In the harsh winter, as all things wither, only the bamboo stands proudly.
I love the character of bamboo, so I often water and tend to it carefully. Bamboo may not have flowers, but it has integrity; though not tall, it possesses grace. As the ancients said, "One may go without meat, but not without bamboo." Truly, this saying holds true!
